Plans approved for top notch regional sports hub at Letterkenny

Donegal County Council has approved plans for a new sports campus for Atlantic Technological University (ATU). Hamilton Architects is leading the design initiative for the Letterkenny Regional Sports Activity Hub.

Situated on 42 acres at Carnamoggagh Lower/Knocknamona, the campus will boast 8 pitches, a cricket crease, training area, and dedicated hurling/handball wall, alongside a state-of-the-art 1,060m2 dome for indoor sports.

A proposed 1,340m2 Pavilion building will accommodate changing facilities, office/reception, self-serve catering, storage, and flexible spaces for community programmes.

The site will also feature a 6-lane athletic sprint track, winding walking trail loop, informal cross-country route, and children’s play park. The landscaping plan encompasses the creation of a biodiversity garden.

Vehicular and pedestrian access will include a new junction from N56, internal access roads, footpaths, cycleway, and parking for cars, coaches and bicycles.

The facilities will be open to a diverse range of local sports clubs, schools, and industries, fostering collaboration and enhancing community engagement.
